Pedalling Toward A Greener Future - Bikes For Good, Glasgow

A Modern Heating Solution For A Purpose-Driven Organisation.

At Yarrow Energy, we’re passionate about helping organisations that do real social good become more sustainable — not just in the work they do, but in how they power their spaces. That’s why we were proud to partner with Bikes for Good, one of Glasgow’s most inspiring community-focused organisations, on the full replacement of their ageing heating system.

For years, the team at Bikes for Good had been relying on outdated gas-fired warm air blowers to heat their workshop and operational areas. Not only were these units inefficient and expensive to run, they were also inconsistent in performance — especially during the colder months when warm, reliable air was needed most for both staff and visitors.

We were brought in to deliver a modern solution that would reduce energy costs, lower the building’s carbon output, and create a more comfortable working environment year-round. The result? A full air-to-air heat pump upgrade that reflects both our technical expertise and our shared commitment to a greener Glasgow.

Goodbye Gas, Hello Efficiency

Goodbye Gas, Hello Efficiency

After a thorough on-site assessment, we specified the installation of four high-efficiency Fujitsu air-to-air heat pumps. These units are ideal for organisations like Bikes for Good that require zoned heating across flexible spaces — such as workshops, communal areas, and customer-facing zones.

Unlike the old blowers, which offered very limited control and uneven heat, the new heat pump system delivers:

- Instant warmth

- Even distribution across all workspaces

- High efficiency, even in colder weather

- Significantly lower energy usage and emissions

Each unit was installed with precise placement to suit the building’s layout, with minimal disruption to daily operations. The compact and quiet design of the Fujitsu systems also meant we could avoid intrusive works or major reconfiguration — another key consideration for a busy organisation like this.

Sustainably Funded, Sustainably Delivered

Sustainably Funded, Sustainably Delivered

One of the standout elements of this project was how it was funded. Bikes for Good accessed an interest-free loan and grant scheme, making this renewable heating upgrade not only environmentally sound, but financially accessible.

We supported them through every stage — from technical specification and grant paperwork to installation and commissioning. This end-to-end service is part of what makes Yarrow Energy different: we don’t just install, we help navigate the bigger picture, including funding opportunities that make green technology viable for more people.

The project was delivered on time and on budget, and we provided full training for the team so they could manage the new system with ease. With simple remote controls and programmable settings, the new heat pumps offer far more flexibility and comfort control than the previous system ever could.

Helping Glasgow Breathe Easier

Helping Glasgow Breathe Easier

This project doesn’t just make economic sense — it helps tackle Glasgow’s wider environmental goals. By removing gas-fired heating and replacing it with renewable air-source technology, the Bikes for Good premises now operate with a substantially reduced carbon footprint.

For an organisation whose mission is built around health, sustainability, and community resilience, this shift in infrastructure sends a clear message: it’s possible to do.

We’re thrilled to have played a part in helping Bikes for Good not only reduce their emissions, but create a warmer, more comfortable, and more cost-effective space for their staff, volunteers, and visitors.

At Yarrow Energy, we believe organisations like this deserve renewable systems that are reliable, affordable, and aligned with their values. This was more than just an installation — it was a partnership, and one we’re incredibly proud of.

If you're running a community organisation, workspace, or not-for-profit and are still relying on outdated heating systems, get in touch. We can help you make the switch — and make it work financially, practically, and sustainably.
